Chamber Music at the Scarab Club will complete its very successful 18th season on Sunday, June 5th, 7pm at Detroit’s Scarab Club, where it all began!

Water Music was completed in 2015 by Ithaca, New York composer Sally Lamb McCune www.sallylambmccune.com . Not only is she originally from Detroit, Ms. McCune was once a student of harpist Patricia Terry-Ross and is a proud graduate of Cass Technical High School. The members of The Eason Trio (Terry-Ross, Kelly and Deleury) are thrilled to perform the world premiere of this beautiful piece written especially for them! Four of the five movements are loosely based on carefully chosen literary quotes that evoke images of water. The final movement is titled Coda: Deep River.

British composer and conductor Sarah Rodgers www.impulse-music.co.uk/sarahrodgers/ wrote The King of the Golden River in the year 2000. The work is based on John Ruskin’s fairy tale of the same name. It was commissioned as part of the Ruskin centenary celebration. This gorgeous piece has been performed eight times in the UK but CMSC is excited to present the work’s first performance in the United States. CMSC is pleased to welcome operatic tenor Drake Dantzler for the first time on the series.  Mr. Dantzler was recently hailed in Opera News as “a real find: he has a voice of molten silver, immaculate musicianship and an expressive stage persona.”

The string quartet featuring violinists Velda Kelly and Elizabeth Rowin, violist Roman Kosarev and cellist Nadine Deleury will perform a short, highly creative piece by Italian composer Corrado De Marco. Quartetto is also being performed for the first time in the United States.

As always, each piece will be introduced by one of the musicians and the concert will be followed by a delicious and friendly reception.
