The German word Stammtisch can be translated into English as “regular’s table.” It is an invitation to friends—to gather round a table and talk, philosophize, dream, rant, play cards. The regular’s table is a symbol of community and conversation.
Curated by Stefany Anne Golberg in collaboration with Detroit Research, Salon De’troit, and the Scarab Club, the Regular’s Table pairs Detroit artists, thinkers, and dabblers and asks them to talk to each other about subjects close to their hearts. It is a conversation between strangers on the way to becoming friends.
MARSHA MUSIC is a self- described “primordial Detroiter.” She is a former activist and labor leader, and has written acclaimed essays, poems and narratives about Detroit’s music, and its past and its future. Marsha was awarded a 2012 Kresge Literary Arts Fellowship and is the creator of “Salon De’troit,” a space for artists and thinkers to exchange ideas and explore topics relating to the Motor City
MORGAN MEIS has a PhD in Philosophy and is a founding member of Flux Factory, an arts collective in New York. He has written for The New Yorker, n+1, The Believer, Harper’s Magazine, et al. He won the Whiting Award in 2013. Morgan is also an editor at 3 Quarks Daily, and teaches in the Fine Arts and Liberal Studies departments at the College for Creative Studies.
