Located in the hub of Detroit’s Cultural Center, the Scarab Club celebrates local and regional art in all its forms. Whether your interest is in art, poetry, or music you’ll be inspired by our programming. Just as importantly, however, we partner with many area organizations reach out into the community as well as to bring new audiences to the Scarab Club. A sampling of our many community activities:
- Since 2016, we have developed the Future Artists Program, a partnership with Alternatives for Girls, which connects at-risk and homeless young women with female artists in a monthly after-school hands-on arts program. This program is generously supported by Frances and Nick Pavlovics.
- Black and Brown Theater, a local non-profit theatre company that seeks to create opportunities for theatre artists of color in the professional Michigan theatre scene, brings family-geared programming to the SC quarterly.
- We are enthusiastic participants in the annual Concert of Colors, offering Afro-Cuban dance classes and cultural experiences from diverse cultures.
- A 2020 partnership with the music school at Wayne State University will bring young composers as well as seasoned, professional faculty to our programming.
