Blue Gold is part of a series of interactive performances and intensive workshops taking place from June – October 2017. Each performance and workshop helps Fringe Society reach their matching grant goal for their Knight Art Challenge project “The Stitching Hour”.
Workshop fees start at $50 but participants have the option of supporting Fringe Society’s Knight Art Challenge matching goal by increasing their workshop fee to $60 or $75.
Blue Gold is a transformative workshop exploring the dyebath as metaphor for the process of gestation and birth. Utilizing the scarab as a symbol of rebirth Shiva Honey and Levon Kafafian will guide participants through a dual transition. Indigo resist dyeing will serve as a roadmap for a journey through personal healing.
Participants will walk away with a patterned silk scarf/handkercheif as a talisman of their transformation.
No prior experience necessary.
The Stitching Hour’s purpose is to explore the wonder of traditional textile production by having fiber and textile artists take over storefront windows on the Avenue of Fashion and turn them into studios for spinning, dyeing and weaving fabrics.

Levon Kafafian is an Armenian-American multimedia artist creating tactile and sensory works that explore the spaces between people, nature and culture.
