The Scarab Club invites submissions for its annual Gilda Snowden Memorial Exhibition. The Scarab Club invites submissions for its annual Gilda Snowden Memorial Exhibition. It is an unthemed exhibition, open to all artists 18 years or older. The exhibition, formerly called the Silver Medal Exhibition, was renamed in 2015 to honor the memory of Gilda Snowden, one of Detroit’s most loved artists and educators.
The purpose of the Gilda Snowden Memorial Exhibition is to recognize the diversity and achievement of artists whose work shows creativity of concept, excellence of design and expertise of media; to display these works to regional audiences and to be an educational opportunity for students.
Tylonn J. Sawyer is a Detroit-based figurative artist and educator whose work centers around themes of individual and collective identity, race, history, and pop culture. His drawings and paintings have been included in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States and abroad. Sawyer holds a BFA in drawing and painting from Eastern Michigan University and an MFA in painting from the New York Academy of Art: Graduate School of Figurative Art. He is the recipient of a 2019 Kresge Fellowship.

Intake: Sunday, March 7, noon-4 pm
Reception: Friday, March 12, 5-8 pm (tentative)
Gallery Talk: Thursday, March 18, 6 pm (tentative)
Pick-up: Sunday, April 18, noon-5 pm
Scarab Club members and full time students pay a discounted entry fee of $20 for up to three images; Entry fee for all other artists is $25 for up to three images; Up to three additional images may be submitted, at $5 for each additional image.
