DETROIT ART PROJECT: The Art of Basil Zaviski
Cartoonist / Artist, Basil Zaviski’s “Gunston Street Comics” has been entertaining U.S. Troops stationed around the world for well over 15 years in the historic Stars & Stripes publication.
In addition to his extensive work in cartooning, Zaviski displays his talents creating pieces using a mix of oil, pencil, ink, watercolor, and digital layering. His signature brush work and unique styling are hallmarks of his work. This show displays the depth of Zaviski’s talent by showcasing samples of his work across genres and mediums.
The Detroit Art Project like Gunston St. Comics, is a continuation of his giving back, creating unique pieces of art and freely giving them to unique places in and around Detroit, honoring historic establishments such as Henry the Hatter, Cadieux Cafe, Too Way Inn, The Old Miami, and Jacoby’s to name a few and giving a nod to the new like The Keep, Stache Int’l, Jamex Brewery, Red Crown, and Recolte.
“This is truly a most exciting time to be an artist in Detroit, surrounded by so much talent all working toward the same goal of showcasing the greatness of Detroit through individual expression of art,” remarked Zaviski. ” The Scarab Club has always been an essential part of that goal and I could not be more proud to be part of it.”
